    Event Description:

On February 27th, we welcome Warren County citizens to participate as we prepare to engage with our Legislators once again in political dialog, reminiscent of the earlier days when Bologna Day took place in front of Fraley's Store on Main Street. State Representatives Judd Matheny and Paul Sherrell along with Senator Janice Bowling will be present to rekindle the original spirit.

Tracing its roots back to the 1970s, Bologna Day became a traditional way for concerned citizens to voice opinions on politics and current events. Then Tennessee Representative I.V. Hillis and community leader Raleigh Paper appeared at Fraley's Furniture Store in downtown McMinnville, with bologna, cheese and crackers...ready to talk politics. For years, Walling Fraley hosted the now famous Bologna Day activities, thus giving Warren County folks the opportunity to rub elbows with the "movers and shakers" of local, state, and national government. Later moved to Capitol Hill after Mr. Fraley's death, hundreds of citizens would converge on Nashville each year to let their voices be heard. It was grassroots, representative democracy at its best, giving locals a connection with state officials and elected legislators.

Southern Central Waste Services, LLCBen Lomand Connect, and Caney Fork Electric Cooperative are making this event possible once again. Southern Central is providing the meal prepared by Prater's BBQ of smoked and regular bologna, or turkey breast with bread, chips, cookies and drinks. Bus transportationsponsored by Caney Fork Electric and Ben Lomand Connect, to the Capitol in Nashville is open to citizens in the community. Please contact the McMinnville-Warren County Chamber of Commerce at 931.473.6611 to make arrangements to attend.
