McMinnville Mountain Crawl

Welcome to the Third Annual McMinnville Mountain Crawl!  This year’s race will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 9:00AM.

Our adventure race consists of three legs: caving, biking, and kayaking to challenge your ability to tackle our community’s unique terrain.  The McMinnville Mountain Crawl is a good test for the seasoned athlete, but is also accommodating for the novice fitness or nature enthusiast.

Racers will enjoy three legs of the race beginning with a run through Cumberland Caverns. Once leaving the cave, racers will transition twice starting with a cycling leg (bring your own bike) including a scenic ride into downtown McMinnville, then a kayak race courteous of Smooth Rapids Outfitters. *New route 2017: Participants will bike from Cumberland Caverns to Smooth Rapids (7.4 miles) and grab a supplied kayak there and paddle to the VFW (Approx 6 miles)!

Racers can complete this individually or as a team of three, splitting the legs between them. Think strategically; form an alliance with your coworkers, friends, or family!

Prizes for this year's event will be better than ever! We like to award the racers who finish first, middle of the pack, dead last, or are just lucky enough to have their name drawn at the end! Enjoy lunch and refreshments at Smooth Rapids after the race!

  Before the Race

   

  From 7:15-8:00am- Drop off your bike at the change station below Cumberland Caverns where volunteers will keep them safe. This is in the grassy parking area before you climb the hill to the General Store. You can't miss it once you're there. 

   

  Race Registration - 7:00-8:15 am at Smooth Rapids

   

  Race Start - 9:00 am on Saturday, September 23rd at Cumberland Caverns- Smooth Rapids will shuttle you (or your runner and biker if on a team) to the cave!

   

   

  During the Race

   

  In order to ensure the safety of everyone involved without compromising fairness, this race will be timed with chips: timing the race with chips allows to start racers in intervals. Racers must cross mats in designated areas in order to time their progress; team members must exchange the chip at each transitional area.

  The first mat is at the bottom of the hill on Cumberland Caverns Rd. before the creek in the grassy parking area.  

  The second mat is at Smooth Rapids.

  The final mat is at off the boat ramp at the VFW.

  Each of these transition areas will be clearly marked in order to eliminate confusion.

   

  After the Race

  Refreshments will be available at Smooth Rapids during the awards ceremony.
  
   

  Event Cancellation Policy

  We always defer to the local law enforcement and safety crew recommendations in the event of adverse weather on race day. We will make every attempt to delay the race in the event of rain. If adverse weather continues and we are advised to cancel the race, all participants will still receive event t-shirts. Participants will also receive a courtesy kayak rental from Smooth Rapids!
