    Name: Rock Island Weed Wrangle
    Date: March 4, 2017
    Event Description:

On Saturday March 4, 2017 at 10am volunteers will be assisting Rangers with the removal of exotic invasive plants. We ask that you wear pants, closed toe shoes, and bring gloves. We will be working in the wooded areas around our maintenance shop as well as the baseball field. Meet Ranger Nathaniel Garrison at the Area 2 Parking lot.

Exotic invasive plants are those that aggressively spread and take habitat away from our native plants. Exotic invasive plants can also cause harm to human health as well as economic harm. If left unchecked these plants can quite rapidly change the face of our natural areas. Here at Rock Island we take our exotic invasive plants seriously. We have spent three years systematically treating the entire park. We have been focusing on Tree of Heaven, Privet, Kudzu, Winter Creeper, Autumn Olive, and Mimosa. After three years we have drastically reduced the number of exotics in the park. We hope you will join us on March 4th to further this valuable work to keep Rock Island beautiful and more importantly an oasis for our native species. #TNPromise #TnAchieves
