The Viola Valley Homecoming occurs every August on the second weekend and is a good, old fashioned, friendly, family homecoming. With music on the band stand in the middle of the town square and food and games for everyone, you should make a point of attending this year on August 11 & 12.
The Sand Bar Arts & Crafts Fair at Rock Island State Park is sponsored by the Rock Island Lions Club and is always a delight for the eyes and even for the pocketbook. With local craftsmen showing an endless variety of wares, you can really find some deals. It occurs on the first Saturday & Sunday of October, the 7th & 8th, mark your calendar.
Regions Bank sponsors one of the biggest area arts & crafts fair on the 3rd weekend of November every year. The McMinnville Civic Center is filled upstairs & down with lots of homemade goodies, both the kind to eat & the kind to collect. Canned goods, fudge, cakes & fried pies are in abundance as are Christmas decorations & gifts to finish your Christmas list.
Main Street Live has something for everyone. Every Friday night of June, July & August there is music of all genres. Bluegrass, marching band music, Mariachi bands, gospel, contemporary Christian or even Elvis impersonators find their way to the stage on the west side of the Security Federal Savings & Loan Bank on West Main Street. Bring a folding chair or blanket & make yourself comfortable under the huge shade trees, enjoy a hot dog from the "Hot Dog Man" or buy and ice cream cone or ice cold drinks from one of the charitable groups & join in the toe-tapping, hand-clapping, hoot 'n hollerin' music.
The McMinnville Christmas Parade is the event that starts the Christmas season for the locals. With the sirens of the police, sheriff, & fire vehicles announcing their approach, thousands line the downtown streets to see floats, bands, antique vehicles, beauty queens, & especially Santa & Mrs. Claus. Come start your holiday season with us on the 1st Saturday of December.
Christmas in the Village is the creation of the McMinnville Junior Auxiliary. Set in the award winning Fairfield Village at the Warren County Fairgrounds, there is singing & stories & bells & cider & of course Santa Claus to greet children of all ages. The second Tuesday of December opens a mountain Christmas vista for all to enjoy.
